Wooden Bowl #1

This beautiful wooden bowl is the first bowl that I turned on my new lathe.

It’s made of Purple Heartwood. I have several more blanks in this material, but I have put them off because this material is like machining steel! It is super hard and dense; this 2.75″ (7cm) by 5.75″ (14.6cm) bowl weighs 19 ounces (538g).

It took a long time to carve and longer to sand this hardwood, but the results are stunning! This thing is so pretty that you will be unwilling to use it for anything other than gazing at it. But you must know it is perfectly usable.

It is finished with UV-curable resin, an expensive finish that cures extremely scratch-resistant. The resin is inert and will not affect the flavors of foods. Hand-wash only; it is not oven – or microwave-safe.

Poorly made Wooden bowls can be bought cheaply on Amazon. My bowls are as much Art as wooden bowls. Each one is meticulously designed and executed by my hands only. They all have my Maker’s Medallion in the base and will be collectible after I am gone. No two wooden bowls I make will be exactly alike, all my creations are originals.
